Wilson and Pearce spurn historic ethics reform

In what is being hailed as "one of the most significant changes to ethics rules in history", the House of Representatives approved a bill to create an independent Office of Congressional Ethics by a vote of 229 to 182.
Two of New Mexico's congressional representatives, Heather Wilson and Steve Pearce, voted against the landmark bill.
The current House Ethics Committee has proven famously ineffective. As veteran ethics advocate Fred Wertheimer told the Washington Post: "(The bill) addresses the single biggest problem with the ethics committee: Things go to the committee and disappear into a black hole."
Despite the reality of two House members currently under indictment, two others recently sent to prison, and several others under federal investigation, Wilson and Pearce joined the opponents of independent ethics oversight.
